Place: Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish Kifaru

Easter Sunday is one of the most festive events among Christians worldwide. It commemorates Jesus Christ's resurrection from death, as written in the Christian bible.  On 11th Holy Saturday evening the parishioners of Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish Kifaru celebrated the vigil of Easter. Liturgy began at 7 pm by blessing of Fire and lighting of Easter Candle, followed by liturgy of word, the readings from old and new testament of Holy Bible were read. Then the Gloria was sung and the gospel wad read.

Parish priest Rev. Fr. Hilary Lobo celebrated the Holy Eucharist. Rev. Fr. Victor Machado, Fr. Joseph Rodrigues & Fr. George Crasta were the concelebrants. During the homily Fr. Victor spoke about the resurrection of Lord Jesus and the significance of it in our Christian life. After the homily the ceremony of blessing of Holy Water was executed followed by sprinkling the Holy water on people. There were 2 adult baptisms on this evening. Kifaru choir members and Ursuline sisters of Marian convent conducted the melodies choir. Sisters decorated alter and church. At the end parish priest thanked all for the cooperation and contribution during the holy week. People were served with sweets and soft drinks.

Easter Sunday commemorates Jesus' resurrection from death. Easter marks a Sunday on which life, good deeds, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is observed. This day brings an end to the Three Days or Easter Triduum which starts on Thursday evening and ends on Resurrection Sunday or Easter Sunday. The week before Easter is termed as the Holy Week, the Thursday of which marks the beginning of Easter Triduum and the Friday is Good Friday. The Easter Triduum starts from Thursday evening ending on Sunday evening, the day Easter is celebrated.

According to the New Testament, the foundation of Christian faith begins or comes to light with resurrection of Jesus Christ, and this very day is celebrated on Easter. Resurrection is actually proof of the belief that Jesus is the Son of God and he will judge the world in virtue. During the Last Supper, he prepared himself for his death and declared the same to his disciples. He held a glass of wine and identified the wine as his blood and the glass as his body which were soon to be sacrificed. This meal is termed as the Passover meal and the resurrection that followed his crucifixion marked the Easter Season.
