On 30th November we had the training to the newly elected Pastoral Council Members.  85 members participated in the program.  Rev. Fr. Longio, professor in St. Augustine University College Arusha was the resource person.  The theme of the day was “Pastoral Leadership”.  Fr. Longio dealt in detail the topic through group discussion and activities.  Jesus the Good Shepherd, how to be a leader through service, the shepherd knows the sheep, shepherd smells the sheep, shepherd gives his life for the sake of sheep, the need of creative thinking in leading the parish people.  He dealt the topic deeply and made the participants understand well.

We began the program at 9.30 a.m.  As the participants came we did the registration and tea was served to them.  Then at 10.00 a.m. we had the Holy Eucharist.  At 10.45 we had the inauguration of the program. The sessions started from 11.00 a.m. and continued up to 3.30 p.m. with some break for lunch.  During the inauguration, Fr. Alwyn the Mission Director told the participants to grow in leadership and build up the parish, think how to uplift the destitute, and down trodden.  How to help out the children and the youth? Fr. Hilary insisted on the need of building up the families of the Parish, so he called upon the leaders to be model for others.  If the families of the leaders are model they can encourage and build up the Parish as a family.

Immediate result: This is the first training for the newly elected Pastoral Council members.  During the days program we had good interaction with the participants.

a.    All were very happy to have the program. Some of the members were there in the former Pastoral council; some were elected for the first time.
b.    For them, coming together like this was very encouraging and giving them a feeling that we all have to work together to build up our Parish.
c.    They expressed that we all should become leaders or shepherds after the image of Jesus the Good Shepherd.
d.    Many expressed that the session was very good and that they have to cultivate leadership qualities in their life.
e.    Young members shared that in next three years we have to bring some great change in our parish.  They requested the Parish priest to have some special programs for the youth and children.
f.    The participants expressed the need to search for the lost and unfaithful.  Go in search of them and bring them back (those who live together without the sacrament of marriage, those young go astray.

Long term result/Impact: This program will surely help the council members to plan and execute good programs for the benefit of the people of the Parish.

a.    These members will take up creative leadership in the Jumuia and Kigango.
b.    They will be more orderly and systematic in their approach in dealing with the various situations in the families, Jumuia and Kigango.

e.    They will take lead in guiding the youth and children.
